Since coming to Congress, I’ve been fighting for an economy that ensures every American has a real shot at the American dream and no one is left behind.
Wake County is home to a thriving small business community that is the engine of our state’s economy. One of my first acts as a new member of Congress was passing critical legislation to deliver relief to Wake County’s small businesses, restaurants, and more during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
I’m proud to represent much of the Research Triangle Park, home to institutions and organizations breaking new ground every day in technology, medicine, and more. In my first term, I helped pass the CHIPS & Science Act, a bipartisan legislative package that will strengthen America’s economic and national security, catalyze semiconductor innovation and manufacturing, turbocharge American research and development, and diversify and expand our innovation workforce. This historic legislation included five of my bills and amendments that will invest in cybersecurity, clean energy technology, research initiatives, and STEM education in the Research Triangle and across the nation.
In addition, as a member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet, I am working to ensure that our patent system incentivizes innovation and works for all Americans. In 2022, President Biden signed into law my bill, the Unleashing American Innovators Act, which establishes a new satellite patent office in the Southeast region and ensures that the patent office provides outreach and support to first-time patent applicants, small businesses, and other populations that are underrepresented in the patent system.
In Congress, I will always fight for economic policies that will create jobs, lower costs, spur innovation, and invest in Wake County residents – from our workers and small business owners to students, families, and seniors.
