Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) released the following statement as President Trump imposes tariffs on Canada and China, and temporarily pauses new tariffs on imports from Mexico:

“Costs are still too high, and President Trump should make good on his campaign promises and prioritize bringing them down. Instead, he imposed steep duties on products from our closest allies, increasing the price of energy, medicine, groceries, and everyday goods. While I’m glad that he subsequently decided to pause tariffs on Mexico, I’m still extremely concerned about his decision to penalize Canada and about the possibility of future tariffs on our other major trading partners.”

“To be clear – I support actions that lower costs and create American jobs. But the President’s rash moves won’t have either effect. Instead, he is alienating our allies and hurting households and businesses, both here in the Triangle and across the country. I join business leaders from a range of industries in urging President Trump to reverse this terrible plan before more Americans suffer the consequences.”
