Every North Carolinian deserves the chance to get an outstanding education. We are extremely fortunate that Wake County is home to world-class universities, community colleges, HBCUs, and K-12 schools that are molding young minds and helping to prepare the next generation of leaders. I’ve been fighting in Congress for greater investment in our students, teachers, and institutions – from early childhood education to college to workforce development programs – so that all of our people are equipped to pursue the American Dream.
During my first term, I introduced several pieces of legislation to help alleviate the burden of student loan debt. Students should not be punished for seeking an education, but unfortunately, college debt continues to hold many of our young people back, preventing them from purchasing a first home or starting a new business. I am committed to making higher education more affordable for North Carolina students.
I continue to focus on securing direct funding for education initiatives in Wake County. In my first two years in Congress, I was proud to deliver federal support for Wake Tech’s Reach Program for first-generation and Latino students, Wake Tech’s electric vehicle technician training program, Saint Augustine’s University’s Public Health Education Center, and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences Education Center at Prairie Ridge.
Education unlocks opportunity. I will always fight for Wake County students, teachers, and an education system where everyone can succeed.
