Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) voted against congressional Republicans’ rescissions package, which would cancel $9.4 billion in previously enacted funding for foreign assistance programs and eliminate all federal support for public broadcasting. This bill will shut down rural television and radio stations—cutting off coverage of local news and high school sports, eliminating emergency information like severe weather alerts, and jeopardizing access to PBS KIDS beloved children’s programming, including Sesame Street and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.
“Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are taking educational TV away from young children and food from our allies facing war and hunger to pave the way for their extreme agenda,” said Congresswoman Ross. “This plan is not only a rubberstamp on DOGE’s heartless budget cuts, it’s also an attack on the resources that North Carolinians were promised and that Congress has already appropriated.
“This bill will hurt extremely vulnerable people who rely on federal support – both at home and abroad. Republicans in the Senate should do the right thing for American families and our democratic allies by rejecting this deeply misguided legislation.”
