This week, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) announced the winners of the 2023 Second District Congressional Art Competition at a reception for student participants, teachers, and judges. The Congressional Art Competition is a yearly national program open to high school students across the United States.

Jordyn Williams, a freshman at Wake Forest High School, created this year’s winning piece, “Fresh.” Williams’ piece was chosen by a panel of Wake County arts professionals and educators and will hang in the halls of the U.S. Capitol Building for the next year.

“Art gives our young people the opportunity to express themselves creatively, tell extraordinary stories, and bring visions to life,” said Congresswoman Ross. “This week, we celebrated Wake County students who are creating beautiful art and sharing it with the world. This year, we had 40 high schoolers from across Wake County submit artwork for the competition. I am always blown away by the talent in our community. Every piece tells a story about the artist and how they view the world. I can’t wait to bring a piece of Wake County back to the Capitol.”

To view all the entries, click here. The first place winner will have their piece displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for an entire year along with artwork from students in all 50 states. Second place will hang in Congresswoman Ross’ Washington D.C. office and third place will hang in her Raleigh office.
