Raleigh, NC – Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) announced that Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) will receive $ 14,698,288 in new federal funding under the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This funding can be used to improve runways and taxiways, for terminal development, and for noise prevention programs.
“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is delivering the investments our communities need while creating good-paying jobs across North Carolina,” said Congresswoman Ross. “As one of the fastest-growing areas in the country, it is imperative that the Research Triangle has a modern airport that safely connects our community to the rest of the country and the world. I’ve recently heard directly from RDU staff about how crucial this funding is for airside and landside improvement projects. I fought hard to make sure that the infrastructure bill would truly address North Carolina’s needs, and I’m proud to say that this investment in RDU will mean more jobs for people in the Triangle and a better, safer experience for travelers.”
RDU will receive a similar tranche of funding from the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law each year for the next five years as part of a program for airport development. The tranche could vary from year to year, as the funding reflects annual enplanement totals. In addition to these guaranteed funds, RDU can compete with other airports across the country for grants from an additional $5 billion nationally for terminal and landside improvements.
On November 15th, President Biden signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which included $15 billion in formula funding to help redevelop airports across the country. The law also includes an additional $5 billion nationally for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) towers and facilities funding, which the FAA will distribute among airports in need.
Prior to the announcement of this funding, Congresswoman Ross toured RDU and highlighted the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. For more photos of Rep. Ross’ tour, click here.
In October, Congresswoman Ross joined a bipartisan, bicameral North Carolina delegation letter to the FAA expressing support for RDU’s ongoing efforts to undertake improvements to the airfield, terminals, ground transportation, and general aviation at the airport.
