Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) voted against the No Rogue Rulings Act, a harmful Republican bill that would prevent district court judges from issuing nationwide injunctions. Recently, judges have issued these injunctions in critical cases that have protected the American people, including preventing Elon Musk from accessing sensitive government data and blocking Trump’s unconstitutional birthright citizenship Executive Order.

This legislation is part of a broader campaign by Trump and Congressional Republicans to attack, unfairly influence, and weaken the judiciary. In contrast, Congresswoman Ross supports sensible reforms to our judicial system to ensure that cases with national implications are fairly decided. Last Congress, she introduced the Fair Courts Act, a bill to address the issue of judge shopping, in which litigants seek out partisan judges who will further their political causes with nationwide injunctions. Her bill offers a practical reform that would requires a panel of judges to preside over cases that seek nationwide relief.

“Congressional Republicans are attempting to dismantle appropriate checks and balances so they can enact President Trump’s extreme, harmful agenda on the American people,” said Congresswoman Ross. “Donald Trump’s unlawful and reckless actions continue to be blocked in court because they are unconstitutional or illegal – plain and simple. Just because he is president does not mean that Trump is immune from legitimate oversight, especially if his actions and policies are unlawful or unconstitutional. I voted against this harmful legislation, and I hope reasonable Republicans in the Senate will vote against this transparent attempt to dismantle our independent judiciary.”
