Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Deborah Ross (D-NC) released the following statement after the House passed H.J. Res 17. This resolution would remove the arbitrary 1982 deadline for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) as an amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“Today, I was incredibly happy to vote to remove the time limit for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.  I stand with women across the United States in demanding this critical legal right be available to combat the everyday discrimination we face, including pay discrimination, pregnancy discrimination, and sexual and domestic violence, said Congresswoman Ross.

“Sex discrimination cannot stand – we are all equal and should be treated as such under the law. I urge the Senate to immediately take up and pass this resolution so we can add the ERA as an amendment to the Constitution and finally achieve this landmark accomplishment in the fight for equality.”
