Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) voted against Republicans’ government funding plan that fails to extend Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits:
“Since day one of this corrupt administration, Republicans have taken a sledgehammer to our state’s health care system and steadfastly refused to negotiate with Democrats on funding the federal government.
“Instead of working across the aisle to bring down skyrocketing insurance premiums, they plunged our country into a devastating shutdown and unleashed chaos on our people. Donald Trump and his allies in Congress treated vulnerable Americans like political pawns, firing federal workers and forcing families to hungry. Over the past 43 days, Trump has repeatedly used cruelty as a weapon to get what he wanted.
“As I’ve traveled around Wake County during the shutdown, the number one issue I heard about was health insurance becoming completely unaffordable for North Carolina families. In January, more than 22 million Americans will be paying hundreds, if not thousands, more for coverage every single month. Yet, the bill approved by the House tonight does nothing to bring down health care costs for people in our state.
“Democrats are ready and willing to work in a bipartisan way to address the health care affordability crisis in America. If Republicans fail to extend ACA tax credits before the end of the year, they alone own the consequences.”
