Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) released the following statement regarding President Trump’s plans to fire significant numbers of federal workers, including in North Carolina:

“Federal employees are exemplars of selflessness and public service. Every day, in ways large and small, they work hard to make our communities and our country stronger.

“They are the nurses who treat our brave veterans at VA facilities, the air traffic controllers who keep us safe when we travel, and the Social Security workers who ensure our seniors can enjoy a secure retirement. They are the EPA scientists who monitor our drinking water and the National Weather Service forecasters who keep us informed during hurricane season. They are patriotic Americans and they deserve better from this Administration.

“President Trump and Elon Musk’s planned purge of the federal workforce is a direct attack on North Carolina’s economy and security. Over 42,000 federal employees in our state provide a range of essential services. If enacted, Trump’s plan will cripple government operations, hurt vulnerable North Carolina seniors and children, and damage key industries in our state like agriculture and manufacturing.

“When times are tough in North Carolina — including after Hurricane Helene — federal workers have always had our backs. Now we need to have theirs. I am committed to fighting these unconstitutional policies and protecting our federal workforce.”
