Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) released the following statement on yesterday’s antisemitic attack in Boulder, Colorado:

“I join North Carolinians from both parties and every faith community in condemning yesterday’s horrific attack on Jewish people participating in a peaceful march in Boulder, Colorado.

“Tragically, this event was not an isolated incident. In recent years, we’ve seen an unprecedented rise in antisemitic speech and violence, from a shooting at the Capital Jewish Museum, to an arson attack on Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s residence, to disturbing antisemitic threats right here in Wake County.

“These acts are unacceptable and fundamentally un-American. Antisemitism must be loudly denounced whenever and wherever it occurs. American Jews deserve the freedom to live, worship, and participate in our democracy without fear for their physical safety.

“That’s why in addition to offering sympathy and support, I continue to call for increased funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which provides critical resources for security improvements at faith-based institutions, including synagogues.

“While there is no perfect cure for the world’s oldest hatred, in this moment of fear and uncertainty, I am committed to protecting the North Carolina Jewish community.”

During Appropriations cycles for Fiscal Years 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, Congresswoman Ross led her colleagues in calling for increased federal funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program.
