Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) released the following statement:
"It is unacceptable that the Trump administration and the Republican congressional leadership have yet to schedule a briefing for Members on the unfolding situation in the Middle East. This failure is made even more egregious by the fact that the President is reportedly contemplating US strikes against Iranian targets.
"I strongly support Israel’s right to defend itself and believe the United States should remain committed to ensuring Israel’s security. The Iranian regime threatens the stability of the entire region and must never be permitted to possess a nuclear weapon. However, direct American military involvement in this conflict would have far reaching consequences and should not be initiated without explicit authorization by Congress.
"Again, I strongly urge Speaker Johnson to arrange an in-depth briefing for Members as soon as possible."
