Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) voted against House Republicans’ partisan attempt to hold Attorney General (AG) Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress. The Department of Justice and the Biden administration have produced virtually every item that House Republicans have demanded in their 18-month long charade to impeach President Biden, including the certified, official transcript of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Hur.

“After months and months of failed investigations, House Republicans have not produced any evidence whatsoever for their baseless impeachment inquiry against President Biden,” said Congresswoman Ross. “Now, desperate for someone to blame for their failures, House Republicans have moved forward with holding AG Garland in contempt of Congress, an obvious political stunt and waste of taxpayers’ dollars. AG Garland is a dedicated public servant who has consistently cooperated with House Republicans’ absurd demands, despite their repeated attacks on his department and federal law enforcement officers. This vote is a distraction from the real work we need to accomplish in Congress, and I urge my Republican colleagues to stop playing these partisan games.”

Last week in a House Judiciary Committee hearing, Congresswoman Ross questioned AG Garland about rising antisemitism and islamophobia.
