Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) released the following statement on House Republicans abandoning a bipartisan agreement to keep the federal government open and deliver desperately needed disaster aid for North Carolina:

“At the last minute request of Donald Trump and Elon Musk, House Republicans have gone back on their word to keep the government open – putting in jeopardy the paychecks of millions of hardworking Americans right before the holidays.

“Most tragically of all, they are abandoning communities in Western North Carolina who are counting on the federal government to deliver support for families, seniors, small businesses, childcare centers, community health centers, and so many more. Nearly $9 billion for North Carolina is in jeopardy because House Republicans care more about politics and appeasing billionaires than the people they serve.

“An agreement is an agreement. If the government shuts down, Republicans will only have themselves to blame.”
