On Wednesday Congresswoman Deborah Ross announced over $600,000  in federal funding going to local police departments.

“Our communities are safer when police departments have cutting-edge tools to respond to incidents in a timely manner,” Ross said.

The federal funding amounts to $662,000 secured by Congresswoman Deborah Ross now in the hands of three Wake County Police Departments.

$120,000 of that is going to the Morrisville Police Department, which will use it for body cameras and in-car cameras for officers.

“This grant funding will allow us to promote greater transparency, accountability, and really adhere to not only the needs, but the expectations of our town,” Chief Pete Acosta said.

The Apex Police Department is getting $182,000 for barricades used for crowd safety enhancements at community events, something their police chief says will allow them to keep people safe and also cut down on the number of officers needed at events.

“This not only helps out community and keeping our community safe, but also our officers so they can recharge and refuel and be the best versions of themselves they can be,” Chief Jason Armstrong said.

The Knightdale Police Department will get $360,000 for police cruiser replacements.

“I promise you that we will be putting it to good use to serve the citizens, the men and women in our community,” Chief Lawrence Capps said.

Congresswoman Ross says she’ll continue to push for federal funding for North Carolina departments in an effort to keep communities across the state safe.
