Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) announced that 117,000 Child Tax Credit monthly payments, totaling $48.9 million, were sent to families of 191,000 children in the Second District in August.

“President Biden’s expanded Child Tax Credit is a historic tax cut that is lifting millions of children out of poverty and supporting hard-working families throughout the Second District,” said Congresswoman Ross. “These monthly payments are a crucial lifeline for so many families, helping them cover the costs of child care, food, diapers, school expenses, and more. I voted for this tax cut in the American Rescue Plan and will continue working with my colleagues to make it permanent. It’s past time that we give families in Wake County the support they need and make real investments in the next generation.”

According to a report released by the U.S. Joint Economic Committee, 1,184,000 monthly payments went to families across North Carolina in August for a total of $499 million. The average payment per household was $422.

Nationwide, the Joint Economic Committee estimates the monthly Child Tax Credit payments are pumping $19.3 billion into local economies each month, supporting local jobs and businesses.
