Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) released the following statement on the fourth anniversary of the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol:
“Four years ago today, a violent mob – incited by then President Trump – attacked the U.S. Capitol and attempted to prevent the peaceful transfer of power. Today is a painful reminder of just how fragile our democracy is and how close we came to losing it. I join Americans across the country in mourning the lives we lost on that horrible day and expressing my deep appreciation for our Capitol Police officers who work hard every day to protect this institution.
“While many are seeking to rewrite history, the bipartisan work of the January 6th Committee has thoroughly documented the truth – that President Trump lit the flame of violence. No person or pardon or social media post can change history. Today more than ever, I remain committed to safeguarding democracy and combatting forces and bad actors that aim to undermine it.”
