Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision curbing nationwide injunctions:

“Since the start of Trump’s second term, nationwide injunctions have been a necessary, legitimate tool to curb the gross overreach and unconstitutional actions of the Trump administration. Nationwide injunctions have halted Trump’s unconstitutional birthright citizenship Executive Order, stopped the illegal mass firings of federal employees, prevented Elon Musk from accessing sensitive government data, and more.

“In this decision, the Supreme Court has detrimentally weakened our system of checks and balances. The conservative majority has handed Trump and his administration a blank check to violate the Constitution with minimal opportunities for legitimate judicial remedies.

“Further, requiring individuals to join a class action lawsuit for relief in court against unconstitutional actions is not only procedurally arduous, but it will allow untold irreparable harm to happen to millions of people before they ever get their day in court.

“Congress should immediately pass legislation that codifies the use of nationwide injunctions by district courts. In the meantime, we will not be deterred and we will not stop mounting legal challenges against this lawless administration.”
