Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) was joined by Congressman Peter Meijer (MI-03) to introduce the Energizing Technology Transfer Act, bipartisan legislation that will leverage federal resources to grow technology transfer programs and public-private partnerships to address climate change. Specifically, this legislation would allow universities and private sector companies the opportunity to capitalize on the Department of Energy’s research to accelerate the commercial application of clean energy technologies.

“Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time,” said Congresswoman Ross. “If we are to reverse its effects, we must use every tool at our disposal to develop clean energy technologies and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. This bill will do just that by increasing government cooperation with our colleges and universities and companies to catalyze clean-tech innovation. I am fortunate to represent a district that includes much of the Research Triangle Park, home to several major research universities and clean energy companies, including exciting startups and small businesses. I am particularly enthusiastic about the legislation’s investment in our young people through prize competitions that will encourage students to develop business models to advance the commercial application of clean energy technologies.”

“The Energizing Technology Transfer Act would authorize a number of critical transfer activities at the Department of Energy, focused on our small businesses, clean energy, and research at our top tier universities,” said Rep. Meijer. “I am proud to join this bipartisan effort, which will continue to improve coordination and talent sharing between the Department of Energy and the private sector.”
