Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) and Congressman Mike Carey (OH-15), members of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, led 53 colleagues in a bipartisan letter urging President Biden to issue a proclamation designating November 10th, 2022, as National Science Day in the United States. Congresswoman Ross represents much of the Research Triangle Park, a nationally renowned science and innovation hub.
“Next month, on November 10th, the United Nations will celebrate World Science Day for Peace and Development, highlighting ‘the significant role of science in society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues,’” the Members wrote.
The Members continued, “Yet despite centuries of American scientific achievement and reliance on scientific research, the United States does not officially recognize a National Science Day…As you know, scientific research leads to knowledge, products, and processes that continually improve many sectors, including technology, economics, manufacturing, education, health care, transportation, defense, agriculture, animal welfare, commerce, and many more.
“In order to properly recognize and celebrate American scientific achievement and inspire the next generation to continue this honorable and vital tradition, we urge you to issue a proclamation designating November 10, 2022 as National Science Day in the United States.”
Last year, Congresswoman Ross introduced bipartisan legislation with Congressman Peter Meijer (MI-03) to designate November 10th as National Science Day.
