Raleigh, NC – Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) released the following statement on the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan:

“I join Americans from across the country and from every walk of life in expressing my deep gratitude to the more than 800,000 U.S. service members who put their lives on the line to keep our country safe over the last two decades in Afghanistan,” said Congresswoman Ross. “We are forever indebted to the men and women who served in this conflict, from those who deployed after watching the Twin Towers fall on September 11th to the 13 service members killed in the most recent Kabul airport attack. My prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who will never return home. The sacrifices of these courageous Americans will never be forgotten.

“While our mission in Afghanistan has ended, our commitment to ensuring stability in the region and defeating groups that threaten our country and our way of life endures. The American evacuation, mounted under exceptionally difficult conditions, was unprecedented in its speed and scale. As President Biden has said, no other nation on earth could have airlifted so many to safety in so little time. The effectiveness of this effort is a testament to the patriotism and professionalism of our diplomats and our Armed Forces.  I will continue to work with the Biden administration and my colleagues to do everything possible to evacuate the remaining American citizens and our Afghan partners.”
