Washington D.C.—Last night, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) announced the winners of the 2022 Second District Congressional Art Competition at a reception for student participants, teachers, and judges. The Congressional Art Competition is a yearly national program open to high school students across the United States. The winning piece of art, chosen by a panel of Wake County arts professionals and educators, will hang in the U.S. Capitol Building for the next year.
“Art has a way of bridging cultures and generations, making us feel connected to all those who came before us. Tonight, I celebrate each and every student who is furthering this wonderful tradition by creating art and sharing it with the world,” said Congresswoman Ross during the program. “This year, we had nearly 50 high schoolers submit artwork for the competition, and I was so impressed with the talent in our community. With every piece, they told exquisite stories about their lives and how they interpret the world around them, and whether I’m in the Capitol or back home in Raleigh, I’m excited to see this artwork displayed every day and be reminded of the power the arts have in young people’s lives.”
