Today, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) released the following statement after Medicaid expansion officially took effect in North Carolina, extending life-saving coverage to potentially 600,000 low-income adults.

“Today, North Carolina officially becomes the 40th state to implement Medicaid expansion,” said Congresswoman Ross. “After a decade of political gridlock, 600,000 North Carolinians will finally be eligible for life-saving health care. This historic day would not have been possible without Governor Cooper’s inspirational leadership or the billions of dollars in federal funding that Democrats in Congress included in the American Rescue Plan to incentivize states to take action.

“I’ve been fighting for Medicaid expansion since my time in the General Assembly and worked hard to pass the American Rescue Plan – including money for Medicaid expansion – during my first term in Congress. While Republicans in the state legislature needlessly delayed expansion for months, I’m grateful that today North Carolinians no longer have to wait for the health care they deserve.”
